Yesterday, Manchester City extended their crisis with a 2-0 away loss to Juventus in the 6th round of the UEFA Champions League. Right-back Kyle Walker emerged as one of the match’s scapegoats and, after the final whistle, faced racist abuse on social media.
Details: Walker shared a screenshot on his Instagram account of a message from a fan wishing him death and making racially charged insults. He also posted a meme depicting him as an Islamist, labeling it “Unacceptable.”
In response, Manchester City released an official statement supporting their player:
"Manchester City strongly condemns the racist abuse directed at Kyle Walker online following yesterday’s match.
We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind, whether at the stadium or online.
We will provide Kyle with full support after the vile treatment he has endured."
Reminder: Despite the loss, Pep Guardiola stated that his team performed well in the match.
