WAFCON 2026: “We’re preparing well for the match against Cape Verde,” says Cameroon head coach Valentine Nguele

Although the Indomitable Lionesses have already secured their place in the quarter-finals, the Cameroonian coach remains ambitious.

At a press conference ahead of the third and final matchday of Group D at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in Morocco, Valentine Nguele assured that her team is approaching the match against Cape Verde with the same mindset.

The Indomitable Lionesses’ head coach emphasised the need to maintain high standards on Thursday 6 August. In her view, having already secured qualification on the second matchday of the group stage must not, under any circumstances, lead to a drop in focus. Every match represents an opportunity to improve and do Cameroon proud.

“Despite the fact that we have already qualified, the standards remain the same. We must honour our flag, and every match allows us to continue working to improve even further.

What I can say is that we have a squad of 26 players. The squad is working calmly to maintain the same level of intensity in our play. For now, we are preparing well for the match against Cape Verde.”
