Wafaa Al-Messioui Emerges as Leading Candidate to Become Raja Casablanca’s First Female President
Raja Casablanca fans are excitedly waiting for the club’s presidential elections after Mohammed Boudrika left in July. The temporary president, Adel Hala, has asked for a special meeting to decide the voting date. This comes as tensions grow because the team has been performing poorly, including a recent loss to RS Berkane.
Fans are putting pressure on Hala to step down, criticizing him for the team’s bad results and the club’s financial and technical problems. Signs demanding his resignation show how unhappy Raja’s supporters are becoming.
Possible candidates for the presidency include Said Hasban, Anis Mahfoud, and notably Wafaa Al-Messioui. If she wins, Al-Messioui would become the first woman to lead the club, making history.
Al-Messioui has close links to the club because she is the daughter of former minister and Raja official Abdelaziz Al-Messioui. Her father was a major contributor to the team's accomplishments, which included winning the African Championship in 1989 and the Moroccan League in 1988. Wafaa, who was speculated to join the club's board early this year, was the former manager of Raja's women's football squad.
The upcoming elections are pivotal for Raja Casablanca as the club seeks a fresh start amid growing challenges.
