WADA closes Swiatek case: No appeal against ITIA decision
In late November, the tennis world was rocked by a doping scandal involving Poland's Iga Swiatek, who tested positive for a prohibited substance. Although the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) issued a favorable ruling for the player, the case remained unresolved as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) retained the option to appeal.
Details: According to Polish media, WADA has decided not to appeal or challenge the ITIA’s decision, effectively closing the case regarding Swiatek's positive test.
Reminder: Tests revealed the presence of the banned substance trimetazidine in Swiatek's system. Her suspension was brief, as the substance was found to have entered her body accidentally through a sleep aid produced and sold in Poland. Swiatek cooperated with anti-doping authorities, admitted her fault, and served a suspension from September 22 to October 4.
