(Video) The Nigeria Premier Football League Remains Wide Open As Rivers United Leapfrog To The Top
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) continues to deliver fierce competition, with no club yet asserting complete dominance. This past weekend saw Rivers United reclaim the top spot with a thrilling 2-1 home victory over Kwara United.
Despite going a goal down in the first 20 minutes to Akani Akeem’s opener for Kwara, Rivers United responded in the second half. Timothy Zachariah leveled the score in the 52nd minute, before setting up Nigeria U-17 international David Benjamin for the winning goal just seven minutes later.
Elsewhere, Remo Stars, who were the league leaders before the weekend, could only manage a draw at Ikorodu City. Third-placed Rangers International were held to a goalless draw at Katsina United. Meanwhile, El Kanemi Warriors, Shooting Stars, and Niger Tornadoes recorded commanding victories.
The relegation battle intensifies as Sunshine Stars and Akwa United struggle to gain form. With the league still tightly contested, the race for the title is far from over.
