(VIDEO) The men's 5,000 metres semi-final race ended in an epic fall
Today at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the first men's semifinal race in the 5000 meters took place.
The race's conclusion was incredibly dramatic. At the very finish, a collision caused four athletes to fall, with two unable to complete the race.
However, the judges decided to qualify three of the fallen athletes – Spain's Thierry Ndikumwenayo, the Netherlands' Mike Foppen, and Britain's George Mills – for the final, as they were not at fault for the incident.
All three Kenyan athletes in the race successfully qualified for the final. The fastest qualifier was Norway's Narve Gilje Nordås.
In total, 12 athletes from the 21 who competed in the semifinal qualified for the final.
It should be noted that the current Olympic champion in this discipline is Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei.
