A pair from Spain won gold in the first ever Olympic mixed race walking event

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, a new athletics discipline made its debut: the mixed team race walk.
Athletes covered a total distance of 42.195 kilometers: 11.45 km for men, 10 km for women, 10 km for men, and a final 10.745 km for women. The race was conducted in a relay format.
In the end, the first-ever Olympic gold in this discipline was claimed by the Spanish duo Álvaro Martín and María Pérez. They completed the distance in 2:50:31 hours.
The silver medal went to the Ecuadorian pair Brian Pintado and Glenda Morejón, while the bronze was secured by Australians Rhydian Cowley and Jemima Montag.
For Spain, this gold is only their second at the current Olympics. In total, the country has won 10 medals: three silvers and five bronzes.
