Mexico’s head coach Javier Aguirre became the victim of an attack following his team’s 2-0 loss to Honduras. The coach suffered a head injury when an object thrown from the stands struck him.
Details. While Aguirre was heading towards the Honduras bench to speak with coach Reinaldo Rueda, a bottle was thrown from the stands, hitting him in the head and causing a bleeding injury.
After the incident, it was revealed that the culprit was Jesús Costly Hernández, the leader of one of Honduras’s supporter groups. In response to the attack, many have expressed hope that FIFA will take action and issue a lifetime ban on him from participating in sporting events.
For context, the match was part of the CONCACAF Nations League, with Honduras hosting Mexico. The hosts secured a comfortable 2-0 victory, with Celtic player Luis Palma scoring both goals.
