On the night of March 17, the semifinal matches of the Indian Wells ATP 1000 hardcourt tournament took place in the United States.

The second-ranked ATP player, Carlos Alcaraz from Spain, defeated the third-ranked player in the world, Jannik Sinner from Italy, in a three-set thriller in the central match of the Masters.

Alcaraz ended Sinner's winning streak, which had reached 19 matches. Sinner had won the Australian Open and the Rotterdam tournament in 2024. This marked his first defeat of the current season.

The head-to-head record between Carlos and Jannik now stands at 5-4 in favor of the Spaniard. It's noteworthy that a year ago, Alcaraz also defeated Sinner in the semifinals on these courts.

In the final match, Alcaraz will face the 4th seed, Daniil Medvedev. The Russian player won in three sets against the 17th-ranked player from the United States, Tommy Paul, despite losing the first set heavily at 1-6.

The second set ended on an intriguing note. Medvedev led 4-0 with two breaks. He failed to serve out the set and also missed two set points on Paul's serve in the 12th game before the tiebreak, where Paul led 3-2 with a mini-break. However, the American couldn't capitalize on the opportunity, conceding both the second and third sets to Medvedev.

It's worth mentioning that Alcaraz is the defending champion of the Indian Wells Masters. Last season, he defeated Medvedev in the final. This is Carlos' first final appearance of the 2024 season.

Earlier, the finalists of the women's singles event in Indian Wells were determined.

ATP 1000 Indian Wells, Semifinals:

Tommy Paul [17] - Daniil Medvedev [4] - 6:1, 6:7 (3:7), 2:6
Jannik Sinner [3] - Carlos Alcaraz [2] - 6:1, 3:6, 2:6
