The season is effectively over for Barcelona's young midfielder.
Details: Last Saturday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper stadium, Barcelona's U19 youth team played another domestic league match against FC Nàstic, but the game was overshadowed by a highly distressing incident.
During one episode, 16-year-old Portuguese winger Ajay Tavares attempted a solo run down the flank. However, his effort was thwarted, and unable to stop himself, he collided at speed with a concrete wall located just behind the goal.
Following the impact, Tavares immediately fell to the ground and signaled urgently for medical assistance. After receiving initial treatment from the medical staff, Tavares left the field. Today, it was confirmed that he suffered a fractured wrist and several bruises. His recovery time is expected to be at least two months, effectively ruling the Barcelona wonderkid out for the rest of the season.
This situation once again demands a reassessment of player safety measures at stadiums where concrete barriers are present.
Previously in England, a footballer tragically died after a similar incident, suffering a severe blow against a concrete wall during a match.
