Verstappen to serve "community service" penalty for profanity
Max Verstappen has been handed a community service penalty by the FIA for using profanity during a press conference in Singapore, according to the Daily Mail. The reigning Formula 1 champion will fulfill his punishment in Rwanda after the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony, which is set to take place in Kigali on December 13.
"While in Kigali he will undertake some work with junior competitors as part of the grassroots development organised by the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC)," an FIA spokesperson explained.
The incident occurred when Verstappen used explicit language to criticize the state of his car during the press conference. The Dutchman later apologized, attributing his choice of words to the challenges of expressing frustration in English, which is not his native language.
Formula 1 has been closely monitoring driver language in recent years to reduce the use of profanity. Verstappen has voiced frustration over these restrictions, as the FIA also enforces limits on swearing during team radio communications, for which he has previously been warned.
