Egypt’s head coach, Hossam Hassan, delivered a strong message following the national team’s 1-1 draw with Botswana in the final round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Hassan expressed frustration over what he described as deliberate attempts to undermine Egypt’s successes, which he believes have contributed to the absence of fan support.
At the press conference, Hassan said, "Criticism has hurt the team's connection with its fans. Focusing on our wins as less important and pointing out easier opponents has made our successes seem less significant."
Hassan also talked about important changes the team has made, like fixing problems with the right-back, left-back, and center-back positions. He said Mostafa El-Ash was a candidate to join the team, but was unable to join due to travel issues.
“Egypt will face fierce competition from other big teams like Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal, we will compete for the title, but winning will not be easy,” Hassan said, referring to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Hassan’s comments highlight the need for Egypt to unite in its quest for continental success.
