Unity in Argentina! Clubs express condolences to Lionel Messi
The football world stands united in the face of tragedy in Lionel Messi's family.
Details: Argentina remains in mourning following the passing of the father of Argentina's national team captain, Lionel Messi. In honor of Jorge Messi, the Argentine Football Association has required all players to wear black armbands and begin every league match with a minute of silence.
Additionally, clubs across Argentina—including Newell's Old Boys, Rosario Central, River Plate, and Boca Juniors—have sent messages of support and condolences to Messi and his family.
Earlier tonight, national teammate Rodrigo De Paul also paid tribute to Messi by celebrating his goal and revealing a shirt with the number ten and the football star’s name on the back.
Jorge Messi passed away on August 7 and will be remembered as a father who protected and helped his son become one of the greatest footballers in the sport’s history.
Jorge will be laid to rest in his hometown of Rosario; Lionel Messi has already traveled to Argentina to say his final goodbye to his father.
