Unfortunate setback... Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaves the Gabon national team early and returns to Marseille

Aubameyang's team no longer has any chance of advancing to the next round.

Details: Today it was announced that the 38-year-old forward for French side Marseille and the Gabon national team has ended his Africa Cup of Nations campaign early and will not play in the final match against Ivory Coast.

Reports indicate that Aubameyang made this decision because Gabon is already eliminated from the tournament and the striker does not wish to take the field for the last match. Instead, Aubameyang will return to Marseille to train individually.

After two rounds of the AFCON, Gabon has 0 points and 2 defeats.

Aubameyang did manage to score a goal in the tournament against Mozambique. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for Gabon—they lost 2-3.
