Unexpectedly. Max Verstappen could leave Red Bull
Max Verstappen's contract with Red Bull, which runs until the end of 2028, is considered a major asset for the team. However, its value could become questionable if Red Bull fails to perform in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
This opinion was voiced by former Red Bull driver Robert Dornbos, who reflected on Verstappen's potential future in F1, especially with the new regulations set to take effect in 2026.
Details: Before the new engine and chassis rules come into play in 2026, there is one more season under the current conditions. Despite Verstappen's dominance, having secured his fourth consecutive World Championship title, Red Bull faced difficulties in the middle of the season.
Although Verstappen's contract with Red Bull runs until 2028, it includes a termination clause if the team fails to achieve high results. This has been confirmed by Red Bull's senior advisor Helmut Marko and team principal Christian Horner. Amid rumors of a possible move to Mercedes or Aston Martin, Red Bull cannot afford to lose ground.
According to Robert Dornbos, if Red Bull faces difficulties in the 2025 season, they could lose their star driver. "It's crucial for the team to prepare a competitive car; otherwise, this contract will lose its value because Max will simply leave," Dornbos said in an interview with GPFans.
As a reminder, in the 2025 season, Verstappen will have Liam Lawson as his teammate, replacing Sergio Perez. Verstappen himself admitted to having talks with Mercedes, but his loyalty to Red Bull remains his priority.
