Espanyol have wasted no time in making a major change on the touchline.

Details: Espanyol have officially appointed Eder Sarabia as their new head coach, with the Spaniard replacing Manolo González in charge of the Catalan side. The managerial change follows González's departure after a difficult run of results and the painful Copa del Rey elimination against Sestao River, who defeated Espanyol 4-3 after extra time. The club had announced the end of González's tenure on October 27, thanking the coach for his work within the organisation.

Sarabia returns to the dugout after ending his spell with Elche earlier this year. His appointment brings a coach with recent La Liga experience to an Espanyol side that now needs an immediate response in the domestic championship.

The new Espanyol boss also has an interesting connection with Barcelona. Sarabia previously worked as Quique Setién's assistant at the Catalan giants in 2020, having also been part of Setién's coaching staff at Las Palmas and Real Betis before beginning his own career as a head coach.

It is worth noting that Sarabia's most recent spell as a head coach came at Elche. The club officially confirmed that under his leadership they won promotion to Spain's top flight and then secured their place in La Liga the following season before the coach decided to step away from the job.
