Argentina turned around an almost lost semifinal in just a few frantic minutes.

Details: Lionel Scaloni’s squad trailed England after Anthony Gordon’s goal in the 55th minute, but completely flipped the script in the dying stages. First, Enzo Fernández leveled the score with a superb long-range strike in the 85th minute, and then, deep into stoppage time, Lautaro Martínez made it 2-1 after a brilliant assist from Lionel Messi.

Until that point, the English side had maintained a slender lead and were just minutes away from booking their place in the final. But relentless pressure from the reigning world champions paid off: two late goals turned a 0-1 deficit into a 2-1 victory, leaving Thomas Tuchel’s team on the brink of elimination.

The winner between England and Argentina will face Spain in the final, after the Spaniards defeated France 2-0 earlier.

Reminder: A first at the tournament. England vs Argentina sets an unwanted record at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
