UK government ready to take Abramovich to court over Chelsea sale proceeds

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea Football Club. The proceeds from the sale were intended to aid Ukraine, but the oligarch has been slow to facilitate the transfer.
Details: According to The Athletic, the UK government is preparing legal action to seize £2.3 billion that has been frozen in a bank account linked to Abramovich following the sale of the club.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Foreign Secretary David Lammy are spearheading the lawsuit, declaring their readiness to use every available measure to secure the funds and redirect them toward humanitarian relief efforts for Ukraine.
Reminder: Earlier reports indicated that the UK government plans to investigate the appointment process of an independent regulator in the Premier League.
