The entire world continues to debate the fairness of disallowing Julian Alvarez's penalty goal during yesterday's penalty shootout against Real Madrid. UEFA has issued an official statement regarding this incident.

Details: Atletico was extremely dissatisfied with the referees' decision, prompting them to seek explanations from UEFA. Here is how UEFA responded:

“Although minimal, the player touched the ball with his standing foot before striking it with his kicking foot. According to the current rules (Laws of the Game, Law 14.1), VAR should have informed the referee that the goal should be disallowed.”

Meanwhile, as reported by AS, UEFA and IFAB are considering revising this rule.

Reminder: Earlier, Julian Alvarez himself stated that he did not feel the first touch of the ball.
