Despite their Champions League exit at the hands of London’s Arsenal, Atlético Madrid continues to face the aftermath of that clash.
Details: Today, UEFA slapped the Spanish club with a 15,000 euro fine. The sanction was imposed after incidents recorded during the first leg against the Gunners, when various objects were hurled onto the pitch from the stands.
The disciplinary committee paid special attention to the “welcome” organized by Atlético fans for the visitors from London: a veritable shower of toilet paper rolls rained down onto the pitch. UEFA deemed these actions dangerous, as they posed a potential safety threat to match participants.
The decision was made based on a report from the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, which documented a violation of competition regulations.
Reminder: Atlético star Julián Álvarez is in talks over a new contract.
