Police reported that the stolen watches were valued at €20,000, while jewelry worth €60,000 was also taken. Later, there were suggestions that there had been no theft and that Turkish players had simply forgotten their valuables in the locker room, but Turkish police confirmed that one suspect had already been arrested and the jewelry had been returned to its owners.
At present, investigators are working to determine how the thieves gained access to the locker room.
The match itself ended in a 2-2 draw, which allowed Spain to qualify directly for the World Cup, while Turkey was sent to the qualification play-offs.
