This weekend, Formula 1 fans are in for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The European leg of the season kicked off on Saturday, May 17, with qualifying in Imola.

Drama unfolded early in Q1 as a serious accident occurred involving Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda. During his first flying lap of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix qualifying, it appeared that Tsunoda’s RB21 lost power on the approach to Turn 6. The Japanese driver lost control, skidded into the gravel, and the rear of his car slammed into the tyre barriers. The impact launched the car into the air, flipping it over—but, fortunately, Tsunoda walked away unscathed.

The session was red-flagged. The Red Bull driver was taken to the circuit medical centre for a check-up.
