Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong insists that Nigeria isn’t concerned about their poor away record against Rwanda as they prepare for Friday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Troost-Ekong: History Doesn’t Matter

“We’ve read about our record in Kigali, but we’re not bothered. I was part of the last game there, which ended scoreless, but we know that we cannot afford a draw this time,” Troost-Ekong told thenff.com.

With Nigeria currently sitting fifth in Group C with just three points from four matches, the Super Eagles must secure maximum points to revive their qualification hopes.

Nigeria’s Record Against Rwanda

Nigeria has never prevailed in a competitive match played in Rwanda; all of their prior meetings have ended in draws. But the group is committed to changing the course of history and winning a significant match.

Strong Squad Ready for Battle

African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Sadiq Umar, and fresh call-up Tolu Arokodare are all part of the Super Eagles' potent offensive frontline. Nigeria's offensive danger will be mostly dependent on Osimhen, who tops the scoring lists in the Turkish Super Lig.

FIFA Appoints Moroccan Referee

FIFA has assigned Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed to officiate the match, which kicks off at 6 PM Rwanda time (5 PM Nigeria time).

Eric Chelle’s Debut as Head Coach

The match will mark the debut of new head coach Eric Chelle, who will look to turn Nigeria’s fortunes around. The Super Eagles have gone four qualifiers without a win and must step up to claim the only automatic qualification ticket from Group C for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
