The long-running transfer dispute between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid has taken another unexpected turn. The Catalan giants have reportedly received a fine of just €602 following the controversy surrounding their pursuit of Julián Álvarez.

Details: According to The Touchline on October 27, the Spanish Football Federation has fined Barcelona €602 following Atlético Madrid's complaint over alleged improper contact with Julián Álvarez. The reported amount is strikingly small considering the seriousness of the original accusations. However, an official disciplinary ruling confirming this specific punishment has not yet been independently verified.

The dispute began in June when Atlético accused Barcelona of approaching their Argentine striker without permission. The Madrid club argued that Álvarez remained within the protected period of his contract, which runs until June 2030. On July 30, the RFEF officially opened extraordinary disciplinary proceedings and appointed an investigator to examine the complaint. Barcelona maintained that it had followed the appropriate procedures.

The €602 figure is particularly significant because the federation's disciplinary regulations provide for fines of up to that amount under Article 133. Other provisions allow potentially more serious punishments. Earlier reports also revealed that Barcelona had offered €100 million for Álvarez, but Atlético refused to negotiate his departure.

It's worth noting that Álvarez recently apologised to Atlético supporters for comments made during the World Cup about his desire to leave. The 26-year-old scored the winner against Deportivo La Coruña on October 24 and expressed hope of rebuilding his relationship with the fans. His contract remains valid until 2030, regardless of the reported fine.

Reminder: He finally said it! Julián Álvarez apologizes to Atlético fans after turbulent summer.
