Manchester United are preparing a major transfer offensive! The Red Devils have reportedly identified Sporting CP's teenage sensation Flávio Gonçalves as a priority target and are ready to test the Portuguese club's determination with a substantial opening offer.

Details: According to TEAMtalk, citing information from CaughtOffside, Manchester United and Chelsea are preparing January bids worth between €45 million and €50 million for Gonçalves. Sporting are reluctant to sell the 19-year-old winger and could demand his full €60 million release clause. No formal offer has been confirmed yet, but both English clubs have reportedly monitored the youngster extensively.

Gonçalves has emerged as one of Portugal's most exciting young attackers. Born in France to Portuguese parents, he developed through the academies of Rio Ave and Sporting before earning promotion to the Lisbon club's first team in July. He has already registered three goals and one assist in nine appearances this season, attracting attention with his acceleration, dribbling and ability to cut inside from the left wing.

Chelsea could provide serious competition for United, particularly after completing the transfer of Geovany Quenda from Sporting. The Portuguese giants, meanwhile, reportedly want to extend Gonçalves' contract and increase his release clause to €100 million. That would make any future deal considerably more expensive. United are exploring attacking reinforcements while uncertainty continues over Marcus Rashford's long-term future.

It's worth noting that Gonçalves' current Sporting contract runs until June 2030. He has already represented Portugal at under-21 level, while clubs from Spain and Italy have also reportedly sent scouts to watch him. Whether Manchester United can convince Sporting to negotiate below the release clause remains uncertain.

Reminder: 5 options! Manchester United's shortlist to replace Carrick revealed.
