The English football community has been plunged into mourning following news of the untimely death of a former striker.

Details: Former England youth international forward and Charlton Athletic academy graduate James Walker has tragically died at the age of 38. The news was reported by the respected British newspaper The Mirror.

The athlete's life changed dramatically seven years ago: in 2019, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while teaching a physical education class. Doctors saved the footballer's life after he spent 15 days in a coma, but oxygen deprivation to the brain caused severe and irreversible physical limitations, leaving the former player dependent on round-the-clock medical care at a specialist facility in Southend.

The situation worsened after another deterioration in his health at the end of last year. Walker passed away peacefully in his sleep. The striker's former clubs expressed their deepest condolences to his family and confirmed that a minute's applause would be held in his memory before their upcoming matches.

It is worth noting that James Walker came through every level of the Charlton Athletic academy, making more than 50 appearances. He also represented Southend United and Gillingham, while regularly being called up for England under-18 matches.
