Touching: former Germany star Christian Ziege emotionally remembers his late wife
Former Germany international Christian Ziege shared an emotional tribute to his late wife Pia on social media.
Ziege posted a black-and-white photo of Pia, accompanied by the words "Still don’t understand." The heartfelt message reflected how deeply she remains in his heart and thoughts.
The former footballer first announced his wife's passing in November, revealing that she had lost a long battle with a serious illness.
Ziege had previously shared a powerful story about how Pia had once saved his life. In 2002, he developed a blood clot in his leg, and it was Pia who convinced him to seek medical attention. Without emergency treatment and surgery, Ziege risked losing his leg or even his life.
"My life was in acute danger, she persuaded me to go to the hospital quickly. Without my wife, I would not be alive today," Ziege recalled.
Christian and Pia were married since 1997 and had two children together. Pia also had a daughter from a previous marriage.
