Last summer, Tottenham signed a contract with a new coach. The Australian specialist Ange Postecoglou took the helm. He had previously worked with Greek, Australian, and Japanese clubs, and before joining Spurs, he spent two years as the head coach of Celtic.

At the start of the season, Tottenham showcased incredible results, enjoying a streak of ten matches without defeat in the Premier League. However, the magic of the new coach gradually faded, and currently, the club sits in fifth place in the English top flight.

Postecoglou himself explained why he chose Tottenham Hotspur. His words, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, shed light on his decision:

"The main reason I joined Tottenham is that they haven't won anything for a long time. That's why I came. It's the biggest attraction.

It's the Premier League; I earn decent money, have a high status, excellent stadium, and conditions. But despite this, I like this challenge."

The last time Tottenham lifted a trophy was in 2008 when they won the Football League Cup. Their last league title triumph in England dates back to 1961. They clinched the FA Cup thirty years later, and their greatest achievements on the European stage include winning the UEFA Cup in 1972 and 1984.

Postecoglou also expressed his views on players who prefer to join clubs participating in the Champions League:

"I don't need players who want to join a club just for the Champions League.

They don't want to join Spurs; they want to join a Champions League club. This year I signed Van de Vena - he's a decent player, isn't he? And were we in the Champions League? No."

Tottenham currently occupies fifth place in the Premier League and could potentially qualify for the Europa League. However, they are only two points away from the Champions League zone, and they have played one match fewer than Aston Villa, who sits in fourth place.
