Today in Nantes, the bronze medal match of the 2024 Olympics in football took place, featuring two African teams—Egypt and Morocco.
This is a match the Egyptian players will want to forget as quickly as possible, as they suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat.
Morocco took control early, scoring twice in the first half. Abde Ezzalzouli opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, and just three minutes later, he provided an assist for Sofiane Rahimi.
The final blow to Egypt’s resistance came with Bilal El Khannous' goal at the start of the second half. Rahimi then completed his brace, while Akram Nakach and Achraf Hakimi added a goal each.
Notably, Sofiane Rahimi scored eight goals in this Olympics, equaling the record for most goals by an African player in a single tournament, set by Egypt's Mostafa Riyadh.
For Morocco, this marks their first-ever Olympic football medal.
