Times are changing, and the perception of football evolves with each passing year.

Details: 62-year-old Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, currently heading Lisbon's Benfica, stated in a recent interview that he doesn’t understand the criteria club executives use to select head coaches nowadays, whereas before everything was clear:

"It used to be believed that whoever won the most was the best, but that's no longer the case. Now, whoever creates the most impressions is considered the best.

There are coaches who try things that don’t work and fail, but they say: ‘I died with my idea.’ If you die with your idea, you’re a fool.

I came to the Premier League in 2004 as the European champion, and that year only two foreign coaches joined the Premier League: myself and UEFA Cup winner Rafa Benitez, who triumphed with Valencia and moved to Liverpool; I won with Porto and went to Chelsea.

Today, coaches are going to the Premier League whose names I don’t even know—and I say this with no disrespect, it’s just the truth. Some coaches are chosen based on data and statistics, not on victories.

It’s about creating impressions now, and the idea being sold is that how you play, how you look on the pitch, matters more than winning. At this level, everything has radically changed."

Throughout his managerial career, Jose Mourinho has won the Champions League twice—once with Porto and once with Inter Milan—the UEFA Cup with Manchester United, the Europa Conference League with Roma, and has been named Manager of the Year four times.

Currently, Jose is at the helm of Benfica, having taken over after a controversial and brief stint at Turkish club Fenerbahce, where he lasted only a couple of months.
