Corentin Martins, former French international, has been named Madagascar's new head coach. His first objective upon signing the one-year deal was to get the squad into the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
The 55-year-old Martins's familiar with African football. In his last role in coach, he guided Mauritania to two straight AFCON tournaments in 2019 and 2021. In Algeria, he has also managed teams like Paradou AC and CR Belouizdad.
Madagascar's presently 2 point behind Comoros in their World Cup qualification group, in 3rd place. Martins will get his team ready for the important game against Ghana and the Central African Republic.
The coach expressed admiration for the team’s technical skills and aims to build on their strengths. he plans to mix his coaching staff with both foreign and local members to maintain Malagasy identity.
