As the Paris Olympics draw to a close, the penultimate day featured the final of the men's basketball tournament. The United States secured a convincing victory over France (98-87), while earlier in the day, Serbia claimed the gold medals with a win against Germany (93-83).
Following the tournament's conclusion, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced the All-Star team of the event. The team includes players from all four semifinalist nations, with two representing the victorious U.S. squad.
The top guards were recognized as Germany's Dennis Schröder and the American Stephen Curry. The best forward of the tournament was the legendary LeBron James. The center duo featured France’s Victor Wembanyama and Serbia’s Nikola Jokić. Notably, all of these players are NBA stars.
Interestingly, no player from Team USA made it into the second All-Star team, and not all of these players are from the NBA. The second team is as follows:
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada)
- Bogdan Bogdanović (Serbia)
- Franz Wagner (Germany)
- Guerschon Yabusele (France)
- Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece)
Additionally, LeBron James was named the tournament's MVP, with Victor Wembanyama recognized as the Rising Star. The award for the best coach went to Vincent Collet, the head coach of the French national team.
