Three Days, Two Clashes! Pyramids Slam 'Unfair' Schedule Before Pirates Test
Pyramids FC has voiced strong concerns over what it deems an overloaded fixture schedule, with two crucial matches set just three days apart in mid-April. The Egyptian Premier League leaders are scheduled to host Haras El Hedood on April 16, before traveling to South Africa to face Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg on April 19.
Club Considers Squad Rotation
With recovery time extremely limited, Pyramids’ sporting director has hinted that the club could field a rotated squad in the league match, potentially giving opportunities to young players and backups to rest key stars ahead of the continental showdown.
“We are concerned about the tight turnaround between two vital matches. It’s difficult to prepare properly under such circumstances,” a club source stated.
Title Ambitions Under Pressure
While Pyramids FC currently tops the Egyptian Premier League with 44 points, the decision to rest main players could jeopardize their domestic momentum. But the CAF Champions League is still the club's first aim, and they want to make it to the final for the first time in their existence.
Request for Postponement Possible
The club is reportedly weighing the option of formally requesting a rescheduling of the April 16 fixture to avoid compromising their objectives in both competitions. With the CAF Champions League semifinals representing one of the club’s most significant opportunities yet, player fitness and preparation are being prioritized.
The problem facing Pyramids FC serves as a reminder of the increasing scheduling demands placed on African teams juggling numerous fronts as they try to strike a balance between supremacy at home and success across the continent.
