Three candidates to replace Carrick. Who will take charge of Manchester United?
Manchester United are already preparing a backup plan in case Michael Carrick cannot stop the team's alarming slide.
Details: According to talkSPORT, Manchester United have drawn up a three-man managerial shortlist featuring Fabian Hürzeler, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte. Carrick remains in charge for now, but his position is under serious pressure ahead of Sunday's Premier League trip to Leeds United.
There is reportedly no unanimous choice inside the club. Director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is pushing for Nagelsmann, while director of football Jason Wilcox is believed to favour Brighton head coach Hürzeler.
Hürzeler has strengthened his reputation with Brighton, who sit third in the Premier League after six rounds, while the club extended his contract until June 2029. Nagelsmann is currently available after leaving the Germany job earlier this year. Conte is also without a club and, according to talkSPORT, is open to returning to the Premier League.
The pressure on Carrick has increased dramatically after Manchester United went five matches without a victory in all competitions. The upcoming clash with Leeds is now viewed as another crucial test, and another poor result could force the Old Trafford hierarchy to make a decision.
It is worth noting that Manchester United have collected only six points from their opening six Premier League matches, with just one victory. That is the club's worst start to a league season in 40 years.
