"Threatened to be stabbed in front of his son": Cyclist Mark Cavendish shares terrifying robbery ordeal

Renowned cyclist and Olympic medalist Mark Cavendish opened up about the horrifying night armed robbers broke into his home and threatened his life. In an interview with Cbainfo, Cavendish recounted the traumatic events that unfolded on November 27, 2021.

In the dead of night, four masked men forced their way into Cavendish’s home. The assailants brutally assaulted him and held a knife to his neck, demanding he hand over a sapphire-encrusted Richard Mille watch worth £2 million, which he had borrowed for the GQ Awards.

Cavendish's wife, Peta, tried to shield their three-year-old son by hiding him under a blanket to keep him from witnessing the horrifying scene.

“You think about what you could have done. Everyone thinks, "I'd fight", and of course I was swinging at first. But I tell you, anybody gets a knife held to their neck, you can't do anything. My wife's there, my kid. I was helpless to do anything. To be fair, I'm lucky because I was there. I'm happier I was there than if it happened to Peta and the kids when I was away. I would never have forgiven myself,” Cavendish shared.

Failing to find the £2 million watch, the robbers fled with two other Richard Mille watches valued at £700,000. Three of the culprits were later caught and convicted, while the fourth remains at large.
