Having beaten Athletic Bilbao in the first leg (1-0), the San Sebastián side left their neighbors with no chance in the return match, repeating the victorious result—1-0. With a 2-0 aggregate, the team confidently marched into the final.
The day before, a true thriller unfolded in the other semi-final clash. Atlético Madrid booked their place in the final despite suffering a heavy 0-3 defeat to Barcelona in the return leg. The Catalans came close to a comeback, but the cushion built by Diego Simeone's men in the first match was just enough for an overall triumph. Over the two legs, Atlético advanced with a 4-3 aggregate, making their fans sweat it out in the dying moments.
