This is management by fear! Norwegian football chief slams Infantino
Klaveness refused to stay silent.
Details: Norwegian Football Federation president Lise Klaveness has fiercely criticized Gianni Infantino for the dismissal of FIFA COO Kevin Lamour. She made her explosive comments in an interview with the Associated Press.
"He was simply thrown out, and we’re expected to move on. This is unacceptable—this is management by fear. Kevin is the best football administrator I’ve ever met," Klaveness declared.
Lamour left his post on Monday, just 17 days after making headlines by criticizing Infantino’s secretive project to sell World Cup rights to investment funds for $20 billion. According to the French executive, FIFA staff were misled by the organization’s president. Klaveness believes Lamour’s public statement was pivotal in putting an end to the controversial project just hours after it was published.
Klaveness stressed that this was a dismissal, not a voluntary resignation, hinting that FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström only signed off on the decision under presidential pressure. She also urged FIFA’s leadership to resist following orders that go against the best interests of football. FIFA itself issued only a terse statement, thanking Lamour for his two years of service.
It’s worth noting that pressure on Infantino is mounting by the day: last week, reports surfaced that UEFA’s top brass, led by Aleksander Čeferin, are considering initiating a vote of no confidence against the FIFA president.
Reminder: Scandalous shake-up at FIFA! Top executive ousted after criticizing Infantino.
