Yesterday, renowned central midfielder Thiago Alcântara unexpectedly announced his retirement at the age of 33.

However, immediately following his retirement, the former midfielder might secure a prestigious position. According to Toni Juanmartí, the new head coach of Barcelona, Hansi Flick, contacted Thiago today. The German manager offered Alcântara a place on his coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Flick believes he needs someone in his staff who has an intimate knowledge of Barcelona and can facilitate communication with La Masia graduates.

At present, Alcântara is inclined to accept Flick’s offer. He plans to start his own coaching career in the future.

Alcântara is a product of Barcelona's academy. However, he played only three seasons for the club's first team before moving to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014, following an invitation from former Blaugrana coach Pep Guardiola. He spent the last four years of his career at Liverpool.
