Former Tottenham and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell shared the details of his controversial move from one London club to another, which took place in 2001. The ex-footballer revealed his story on the podcast Stick to Football.

Campbell stated that during his time at Tottenham, as his contract was nearing its end, he was accused of assaulting a steward during a match between Tottenham and Derby County. According to Sol, the accusation was false, as he was not even present near the altercation.

The investigation into this matter lasted 15 months, with Campbell refusing to admit guilt, and eventually, the case was dropped. However, Tottenham's management later decided to use this incident as leverage during contract negotiations, which became the last straw for Sol.

"For me, the episode of trying to frame me for no reason, that really governed my decision, and I wanted to win. Not revenge, but when you look at it, I’d been done over for no reason. I hadn’t decided where I was going but my mindset shifted after that," Campbell stated.
