Today will forever be remembered in the small European nation of San Marino.
The San Marino national football team, which holds the last spot in the FIFA rankings, finally secured a victory! In the first round of the UEFA Nations League's League D, San Marino narrowly defeated Liechtenstein 1-0. The only goal was scored by 19-year-old attacking midfielder Nico Sensoli.
This victory ended a 140-match winless streak for San Marino. Their previous victory came on April 28, 2004, also against Liechtenstein, though that match was a friendly.
Overall, this is just the second win in San Marino's history and their first in an official competition.
The national team played its first match in 1990 and has been a member of UEFA and FIFA since 1988.
