They did it! Sunderland return to the Premier League after 8 years

Sheffield United and Sunderland played the final match of the current season. The Championship playoff final brought the teams together at London’s Wembley.
After being relegated from the Premier League in the 2017/18 season, Sunderland came closer than ever to returning to the top flight. In the playoff semi-finals, the Black Cats fought past Frank Lampard’s Coventry (1-1, 2-1), setting up a final showdown with Sheffield United.
Tyrese Campbell put Chris Wilder’s side ahead in the first half. After the break, Sunderland pressed hard for an equalizer and finally got their reward in the 76th minute thanks to Maenda. It looked like extra time was inevitable, but Tom Watson’s goal in the 90+5th minute handed Le Bris’s men a dramatic victory and a ticket to the Premier League.
Sunderland are back in the Premier League after an eight-year absence and will join Leeds and Burnley, who earned automatic promotion. Meanwhile, Ipswich, Southampton, and Leicester are heading in the opposite direction.
