24-year-old American swimmer Robert Finke won the Olympic gold medal in the men's 1500m freestyle event.

In the final swim, the American set a new world record with a time of 14:30.67, surpassing the previous record held by China's Sun Yang (14:31.02).

The silver medal was claimed by Italian swimmer Gregorio Paltrinieri with a time of 14:34.55. The bronze medal went to Ireland's Daniel Wiffen, who finished with a time of 14:39.63.

This victory marks Finke's third Olympic gold medal in his career, having won two golds at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
