There will be a return! La Liga gives Barcelona the green light to sign Szczęsny
Following the injury to Marc-André ter Stegen, Barcelona has faced significant challenges, urgently needing a goalkeeper. The club decided to bring Wojciech Szczęsny out of retirement, after he had hung up his gloves earlier this summer. Financial constraints initially posed a hurdle, but La Liga made a decision that now allows the Polish goalkeeper to join the Catalan giants.
Details: Szczęsny is scheduled for a medical examination in Barcelona tomorrow, on September 30. The only remaining obstacle was Barcelona’s overloaded wage bill. The club submitted a request to La Liga to apply Article 77, which would enable them to allocate 80% of Ter Stegen’s salary towards signing Szczęsny.
After a brief investigation, La Liga confirmed that Ter Stegen's injury, which will sideline him for more than four months, qualifies under Article 77, allowing Barcelona to utilize 80% of his salary for this purpose, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
Reminder: Barcelona is rushing to complete the signing of Szczęsny in time to register him for the upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Young Boys on Tuesday. Currently, Iñaki Peña is manning the goal, but during yesterday's La Liga match against Osasuna, he conceded four goals, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
