The current military and political tensions across the globe are casting a long shadow over the upcoming World Cup.

Details: After the President of the Iranian Sports Federation announced that their national team would refuse to participate in the 2026 World Cup on US soil due to ongoing military and political aggression against them, US President Donald Trump also weighed in on the matter.

According to Trump, Iran's decision not to travel to the US for the World Cup is the right move, as their participation could end in tragedy:

"The Iran national football team is welcome at the World Cup, but I truly do not believe their presence there is appropriate, in terms of their own lives and safety. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump stated.

At this time, FIFA has yet to comment on the situation, which is even more surprising considering there are only three months left until the World Cup and no replacement for Iran has been named.

Reminder: Breaking! Iran withdraws from the 2026 World Cup
