The UEFA Champions League semi-final match between Borussia Dortmund and Atlético, which took place on Tuesday, April 16th, was a milestone for Mats Hummels.

For the Dortmund veteran, this marked his 500th match for the club. It's worth recalling that in January 2008, he joined Borussia Dortmund on loan, and in February 2009, the club permanently acquired him for €4 million. Since the 2009–10 season, he has been a key defender for Borussia Dortmund.

In the 2010–11 season, he helped the team secure the national championship title, and the following year, in the 2011–12 season, he defended this title. Overall, he spent 8.5 seasons at Dortmund, during which he played 250 Bundesliga matches. On April 10, 2016, Bayern Munich announced on their Twitter account the signing of a contract with Mats Hummels. However, in the summer of 2019, he returned to Borussia Dortmund.

It's worth noting that currently, Borussia Dortmund lost to Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final with a score of 1-2. In the Bundesliga, Dortmund is in fifth place with 56 points.

By the way, it is not yet known whether the cooperation with Mats Hummels and Marco Reus will continue. The former may be offered the role of a reserve centre-back with a contract for another season.
