The UK prime minister and government have given Abramovich a “final opportunity” to transfer £2.5 billion from the sale of Chelsea
In spring 2022, Roman Abramovich sold Chelsea to American investors, and under the terms of the sale, part of the proceeds was to be allocated for humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which has suffered from Russian aggression.
Details: According to Ben Jacobs, Roman Abramovich now has a final opportunity to transfer £2.5 billion for humanitarian aid.
Quote: “Time is running out, and Roman Abramovich must fulfil the commitment he agreed to during the sale of Chelsea and transfer £2.5 billion to humanitarian aid in Ukraine,” said UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Abramovich received a license from the UK government to sell Chelsea on the condition that the funds would be used for humanitarian aid in Ukraine. The proceeds from the sale were placed in a UK bank account controlled by Abramovich’s company, Fordstam.
Reminder: Chelsea legend John Terry spoke about the severe psychological difficulties he experienced after missing a penalty in the Champions League final in Moscow.
