"I looked down from the 25th floor and kept asking myself 'why?'" — John Terry on suicidal thoughts after Champions League final miss
Chelsea legend John Terry has opened up about the intense psychological turmoil he endured after missing his penalty in the Champions League final shootout in Moscow.
Details: Speaking on Reece Mennie’s podcast, the former captain of the London club admitted that he was haunted by dark thoughts after the match.
"I remember after the game we all went back to the hotel. I was on the 25th floor in Moscow, just staring out the window, constantly asking myself: 'Why? Why?' At moments like that, all sorts of thoughts come into your head," Terry recalled.
At the same time, the ex-defender emphasized that he’s not talking about genuinely intending to harm himself, but highlighted just how overwhelming the emotional pressure was at that time:
"I'm not saying that if you had the opportunity you would definitely jump, but during that period, you really do have some very heavy thoughts running through your mind."
It’s worth remembering that in that 2008 final, Chelsea lost to Manchester United only in the penalty shootout, with the legendary defender Terry missing one of the decisive spot-kicks.
Reminder: Chelsea winger Tyrique George is set to leave the club in January.
