The transfer is very close. Calafiori will go to the USA, where he will sign a contract with Arsenal
Earlier, we reported that Bologna defender and Italy national team player Riccardo Calafiori was attracting interest from London club Arsenal. The clubs have been actively working on the transfer and have seemingly agreed on all terms.
Calafiori then traveled to London, where he successfully passed a medical examination. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian will now head to the USA, where Arsenal is currently on tour. With his agents accompanying him, it is highly likely that the contract signing will take place there.
Previously, it was reported that the Gunners will pay the Italian club €40 million plus €5 million in add-ons for Calafiori’s contract, including a clause for a percentage of the player's next transfer fee.
Riccardo Calafiori is a product of Roma's youth academy, where he played until 2022, excluding a loan spell at Genoa. He then transferred to Basel for €2.6 million. After spending three seasons in Switzerland, he returned to Italy, joining his current club for €4 million.
It is worth noting that besides Calafiori, Arsenal has also shown interest in Real Sociedad defender and Spain international Mikel Merino.
