Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has reacted emotionally to his exclusion from England's national team squad for Euro 2024.

The Spurs player was initially included in Gareth Southgate's preliminary 33-man squad and featured in England's friendly match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which ended in a 3-0 victory on Monday.

However, on Thursday, the 27-year-old, along with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, was informed that he would not be part of the final 26-man squad for the tournament and subsequently left the team.

"Devastated doesn't quite cover it. I've worked hard all week, but honestly, my form for Spurs when I came back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn't at the level I expected. I think that made Gareth's decision easier.

I thought there would be a place for me in the final squad because I feel like I've been a mainstay throughout this Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in Germany, but the manager has made his decision. And I have to respect that. I'll be back, no doubt. I wish the lads all the luck in the world in Germany. I truly hope football comes home," Maddison wrote.

At the Euro, England will compete in a group with Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia. The Dailysports team provides a detailed overview of what to know about the Three Lions ahead of the tournament.
