The tongue-in-cheek exchange between Kalidou Koulibaly and Yassine Bounou following the CAF Appeals Committee’s decision

It was a scene that was surprising to say the least between the two club teammates.

Kalidou Koulibaly reveals that Yassine Bounou came to tell him he was no longer African champion. But what seemed like a simple joke turned out to be true. A few minutes after this exchange, the two players read a statement from the Confederation of African Football confirming that the title had been stripped from Senegal and awarded to Morocco.

A few days ago, Yassine Bounou came to see me and said: ‘You’re no longer African champions’.” I thought he was joking... but a few minutes later, we received an official statement from CAF announcing that the title had been stripped from the Senegal national team. Neither of us could believe it, and we laughed together at the decision. We reckon that Al Hilal now holds two African titles at the same time.
